A Special Poem
Mia & I wrote this by emailing each other back and forth, it was to commemorate Australia's Centennial.
Those that came...
A world unknown ......new in time
Where the earth was raw and the sun dripped sweat
Where the clutching trees were living fear.
The ancient rocks, fragile death
But, oh, the spirit that never faltered,
On and on along the outback tracks. On and on.
Through the curtain of rain toward the long long struggle ahead.
And there, undaunted they built a life....a life that today is ours
A life given to us by
Those who came
Those that were...
But Shadows in the scrub
A moment of time....time has gone
Where and how did they live, those that were...
In the pattern of trees.....trees that still stand
Free... as a songbird on the wing
What was the song of those that were
A song of living and of peace
A song not forgotten
Taken ... from those who were
Those to be.....the people yet unknown
The future generations to keep alive the song
The song of peace and hope continues in our land
This ancient sunburnt country yours to love and hold.
To capture all the wonders, of those who were before
To keep alive the dreams of the ones who now are here.
The destiny of all the world is in your tender hands
Take the time to think before you act.
That you may leave a legacy
To those who've yet to come.
